In the mid 1980’s, low-budget director Stuart Gordon took an old 1930’s pulp story and turned it in to one of the fastest and funniest living dead movies ever made. Re-Animator may not be unintentionally funny like most of the films we’ll be showing this summer, but the perfect combination of H.P. Lovecraft’s strange plot, Gordon’s talent and creativity as a horror director and performances from actors like Jeffrey Combs make Re-Animator a hilarious horror classic that we’re sure you’ll love.

Jeffrey Combs stars as the dedicated medical student Herbert West who’s dream to re-animate the dead becomes a reality when his dangerous experiments start to yield horrifyingly successful results. West quickly realises that the living dead aren’t as grateful to back as he thought they would be and finds himself having to deal with the out-of-control mayhem that’s he’s brought upon himself.

Made in just 2010, Birdemic: Shock and Terror may be the most recent film on our line up, but it would still fit comfortably alongside any b-movie of the Golden Age. Birdemic’s wooden acting, bad dialogue, amateurish sound and editing, nonsensical plot and, most famously, terrible special effects seemingly consisting of GIF images, have helped to make the film an instant classic. In just two years the film has gathered a massive cult following and received just as many “worst film ever made” reviews as any other film on our list.

Nicolas Cage is well known for his dedication and conviction when it comes to his acting roles, an attribute that’s normally considered a good thing for a professional actor, but when that role is in a movie as absurd as the 2006 remake of The Wickerman, it’s just a recpipe for hilarity. Cage stars as a haunted but determined American police officer who’s search for his ex-fiancée’s missing daughter brings him to a small island inhabited by a group of neo-pagans. As with the original horror classic, the plot becomes stranger and stranger as the story unfolds but it’s Nic Cage’s over-the-top delivery of the nonsensical dialogue and his dedicated acting out of down-right bewildering scenes that make this movie what it is: unintended comedy gold.

1979 Blaxploitation film Avenging Disco Godfather may not be as well known as some of the other movies we’ll be showing this summer, but it really should be. The fascinatingly bad Ruddy Ray Moore stars as the Disco Godfather who seeks to avenge the death of teenagers in the community who have fallen victim to the evil drug, “Angel Dust”. Aiming to take down the criminal scum who put the drug on the streets and in his club, the Disco Godfather boogies his way through absurd dialogue, beyond awkward fight scenes and an all together baffling story.

What better way to celebrate incredibly strange cinema than with arguably the most infamous film in history? The unpolished gem that is Ed Wood’s 1959 b-movie classic, “Plan 9 From Outer Space”, has been boasting reviews as “the worst film ever made” for over half a century. With an incoherent plot, bizarre writing, awful acting and probably the worst set designs and special effects to ever grace a screen, Plan 9 From Outer Space is an obvious choice for our film night and we’ll take great joy in showing it this Summer.

We’re very excited to announce that we will be hosting a series of weekly film nights this summer at Nice N Sleazy! We’ll be showing two incredibly strange films each and every Tuesday night over the months of July and August, and they’ll all be completely free to come along to. It all starts very soon (in the first week of July!) so we promise to give you lots of information on what to expect. But for now we can confirm that we WILL be showing Troll 2 and The Room again (in the same night!) for those who missed them last time.
